Statement to the Public

On the evening of Saturday, September 20, factions affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government and linked to the Turkish state committed a horrific massacre against civilians in the village of Umm Tina, in the countryside of Deir Hafer, east of Aleppo. The attacks began with the use of drones, followed by intense artillery shelling that directly targeted the homes of residents, resulting in the martyrdom of seven civilians—including children and women—and injuring four others.

We, in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, strongly condemn these barbaric crimes, which confirm the continuation of the aggressive approach against our people and aim to spread fear and chaos at a time when Syria is going through a sensitive stage that requires the efforts of all parties to build a safe and stable future, free from violence and exclusion.

The Syrian people have suffered for more than a decade from killing, destruction, and massacres, and such practices continue to demonstrate the lack of seriousness on the part of some actors in building a new Syria founded on freedom, democracy, and social justice.

In this context, we reaffirm the necessity of holding the perpetrators of these crimes accountable before justice and preventing them from escaping punishment. We call upon the international community to assume its moral and humanitarian responsibilities regarding the repeated attacks against civilians.

Once again, we condemn this crime. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims who were martyred in this massacre, share in their grief, and wish a swift recovery for the wounded.
